Mark Rothko's compositions of hovering, stacked rectangles of color remain profoundly moving to viewers. In addition to those signature works, the Guggeneheim Museum Bilbao will show paintings from Rothko's entire oeuvre, including early figurative canvases and Surrealist-inspired compositions. This important exhibition, organized in 2003 by the Beyeler Foundation, Basel, in collaboration with Rothko's children, Kate Rothko Prizel and Christopher Rothko, honors the centenary of the artist's birth.
