Oteiza: Myth and Modernism
October 8, 2004–January 23, 2005
As part of a biennial cycle of exhibitions of Basque and Spanish art, the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao presents a retrospective of sculptor Jorge Oteiza. This important presentation covers the work of one of Spain's leading artists and his unsurpassed contribution to 20th-century sculpture. Oteiza's artistic and intellectual legacy is that of an innovator engaged in a sustained exploration of the transcendental possibilities of art. His highly personal and idiosyncratic work conveys the vision of a true modern master.
